I have not yet decided, what genre of music I am going to use for my music video. In order to help me make this decision, I am going to look at different music genres and compare the way in which they are filmed and edited.
Firstly I looked at a pop music video, and for this I chose, Beyonce Single ladies.
This music video is choreography throughout, with Beyonce center framed at all times in between the other two dancers. This video is filmed in unison dancing, throughout, in black and white filming, with a white background which makes the dancers stand out throughout. After further research I found out that Beyonce gained this idea from the of Bob fosse choriography. I love the dancing in this video, because of the unison choreography, throughout, which is very energetic. The video is mainly long shots of the dancers, with an exception of a few close ups but only of the artist Beyonce not the other two dancers. Surprisingly there are no cuts throughout this video, instead the whole dance routine is filmed in one shot. There is a lot of camera movement throughout this video panning is used a lot to follow the dancers as they move, because of the energetic dance moves. The success of this video has mainly come from the dancing, and choreography, which has been reenacted by hundreds of fans and posted on you tube, here is one of my favourites:
Next, i chose to look at a different genre of music, this time I chose to look at Green day American Idiot from a Rock genre.
This music video meets are expectations of the genre, it consists of lots of cuts throughout, as well as several different camera angels. These are used to film the performance, of the band. There are also several close ups of the instruments being played, which are focused on whilst being played. The main focus in this video is the front man of the band, who is privileged throughout this video. This video contrasts to the Beyonce, single ladies one, as the focus of the video is very different, as Beyonces main focus in her video is the dancing, where as Green days main focus is on the instruments used within this video.
Next I chose to look at the soul genre, by Adele.
Adele's music video is a live performance at the Brit awards, with a huge audience. Adel is positioned in centre frame throughout, whilst performing, and is mainly privileged throughout the video. There are several close ups of the artist, as shown in the above image. As well as that the camera uses several different angles to view her performance, such as pan, over head, and over the shoulder shots. The pace of the music is very slow, with the backing sound of the piano throughout.
The camera also focuses on the audience several times throughout this performance video, to show their reactions to her performance.
