album cover font research

I am now going to research some font choices for the front cover of albums. There are several different fonts to chose from, however, I am focusing on indie albums to gain some ideas of what sort of fonts they have chosen in the past, in order to help me to gain some ideas of what font we would chose for out front cover of the album.

Above is the first font which I have researched for an album cover. This font is very simplistic, making it stand out well, and easy to read for its audience. However, to improve the font and make it a little more interesting the designer has extended the letter I twice within this text. They have also made the text a little transparent, however not too much so that it is transparent. These effects make the text a little different and avoid the font becoming across as dull and boring. The font also stands out well due to the choice of colour. The white font stands out well against the red on his t shirt, and the surrounding black background. Here, capital letters have been used for the artist on this album cover. This attracts the buyers and target audience's attention to make them want to buy this album as it represents the artist.

ADAPTATIONS: From researching this album cover font, I really like the idea of including capital letters to attract the attention of the buyer. This also will help to promote the artist which is the main purpose of a digi pack.

This choice of font is much more interesting, than the previous font which I looked at, as it is not as much of a basic font as the previous one. However, the reason for this, is that it goes well with the background which also has a similar effect to the text. This creates a house style for the album, as the previous font would not fit well with this sort of background. This text is similar to the previous font choice, as it is also capital letters, making it stand out well and attract the buyers attention. In order to make the font a little more interesting and attractive to its buyers, they have used two different colours of white and red, to break up the space. This also goes really well with the background as the "DAVID" text is positioned on top of the image of the artist, where as the "COOK" text has been placed in front of the background.

ADAPTATIONS: From my research of this album cover I have decided I would like to adapt the idea of my font have a small twist to it making it a little more interesting and more attractive to its target audience.

This font is a little different from the previous two which I have researched into. Here there are no capital letters used and the text is very simplistic. However, the simplistic text makes it a lot easier to read that the previous font which I looked at. Although there are no capital letters used here, the font remains to stand out by being white font placed on a black background. There is also a symbol used to break up the two names of the artist, to make it a little more interesting and attractive to its buyer. Although this is quite a simplistic use of font, it still works well to promote the artist by standing out from its surroundings with the choice of colour font.

ADAPTATIONS: From looking at this font choice for this album cover, I have decided, that I really like the choice of colour for this font, as it corresponds well with the background colour, meaning that it stands out well to its audience and potential buyers once placed on the shelves.
This choice of font stands out really well as it is a black font which has been placed on a white background. The font is in capital letters which dos make the name of the artist stand out really well, however the choice of font is a little strange and could make it a little difficult to read clearly by the potential buyer. I also really like the change of font which has been made for the name of the album. This is also in a smaller font, meaning that the name of the artist would attract the buyers attention first, as this is the main concept of the album, and digipack.

ADAPTATIONS: From looking at this album font, I have decided I really like the large text of the artist as it stands out really well, and is a good choice to market and promote the artist. I also like the idea of the album name being placed below and in a smaller and different font.

Finally I had a look at this album cover font for this particular album. I think the band name stands out really well from the background as the surrounding colour is mainly sepia. This makes the white bold text stand out really well. However, the light brown text which reads the name of the album does not show as clearly as the band name. This is similar to the previous album cover who made the name of the artist text much larger than the name of the album. However, this one is almost impossible to see. However, I do really like the choice of font for the artist name, as it is bold and easy to read, yet it does not come across as dull.

ADAPTATIONS: From looking at this album I have gained a few ideas. I really like the choice of font which is used here, as it stands out really well, however it does not come across as dull or boring, and remains to attract the buyers attention. I also like the change of font between the artist name and the album name.

From researching into these album covers and their choices of fonts, I have not yet decided which font we would like to chose, however, I have gained a lot of knowledge into what sort of text looks good, and the sort of colours to use depending on the surroundings background. I have also gained a lot of knowledge on place and where the artist name and album name should be placed on the cover.

THE WANTED DIGI PACK:

Next I had a look at The Wanted Digi pack. As you can see their is a consistency of a black and white theme throughout. This is shown in the images, text and background throughout the entire album. This created a house style. The front cover features an image of the band, which advertises and promotes the band instantly to the potential buyers. It is a very clear image, where you can see the entire band, and all of their faces, promoting each one of them.  The text here reads "THE WANTED" in a bold white font, in capital letters. This is extremely eye catching, and promotes the album really well.

Here is an image of the inside of the album. As you can see the consistency remains, as another group image of the band has been placed on the left hand side as an inside image. The house style of black and white remains here, as the black background continues with the white font shown on the image. The CD is very simplistic. With a correspondence to the white text on a black background theme. The CD is white with bold black text printed on to it. This is a very simplistic CD, however, it maintains the house style and continues to promote the band.

The back cover, is also very simplistic, yet once again it continues to maintain the house style, using the same font as the inside, and front cover of the album, and the same black and white coloured theme. There are no images used on the back cover of this album, instead there is just a small list of the tracks featured on the album. There is also a bar code included here, as well as some copy right and producer information. Both of these I may adapt on to my own creation of the Digi pack, in order to create a more legit album.
